Ben Martin (born November 22, 1978 , real name Martin Rotheneder) is an Austrian singer-songwriter and musician from St. Pölten . In addition to his solo project, he is also a member and founder of the electronic pop band I AM CEREALS and the progressive indie rock duo The Black Riders .

biography

He started playing the guitar at the age of seven and later founded several bands. In the further course he studied jazz guitar , which he also graduated with a diploma. He came into contact with modern jazz and blues , but never shied away from other music genres.

His interest in the different sounds brought him closer to a broad Austrian scene. Since then he has been in contact with artists with whom he is also in musical cooperation. This includes interactions with the JazzWerkstatt Wien , Viennese Soulfood and 5/8erl in Ehr'n . In addition, he is drawn into the pop / rock sector, where he appeared with Tyler, as well as the artists Axel Wolph and Esteban's.

In 2004 Ben Martin started as a solo artist with his debut album "That State Of Mind". The single "Television" found on it became a temporary indie hit in Austria. Although his first four solo albums were included in the indie scene, there are also two major main projects. The electronic pop band I AM CEREALS was founded in 2007 and was nominated for the Amadeus FM4 Award in 2009. In between he started the band The Black Riders together with drummer Michael Prowaznik. Some songs from the debut album "The Guns Are Rested" made it on rotation on Ö3 and FM4 . In addition, Ben Martin has founded his own label Violet Noise Records , which unites the three music projects under one roof. He has also been working as a songwriter for Chrysalis Music Publishing since 2010.

Ben Martin returns as a solo artist four years after his solo album "Worn Legs". He wrote his album “Born Under Dark Skies” with the help of Lukas Lauermann ( A Life, A Song, A Cigarette ) on the cello, Matthias Frey (Sweet Sweet Moon) on the violin, the drummer Lukas König (Kompost 3) and Martin Eberle (Kompost 3, Jazzwerkstatt Wien) recorded on the flugelhorn. A total of 10 songs run through the album, some with very dark themes. The first single, "Pirate Ships", is the story of a friend who has multiple sclerosis.

In 2011, in addition to his guitar and voice, a loop pedal is used for live performances, which, with eyes closed, suggests a whole band.

In 2013 Ben Martin released his sixth solo album "The Endless Stream Of Everything" on Violet Noise Records.
