Benjamin Walter Jack Spencer MP (born December 11, 1989 in Liverpool ) is a British politician . He belongs to the Conservative Party and has represented the constituency of Runnymede and Weybridge in the House of Commons since the 2019 general election .

Career

Spencer is a trained psychiatrist and worked at King's College Hospital, among other places, before entering politics .

In the 2017 general election , Spencer ran for a seat in the House of Commons against incumbent Harriet Harman ( Labor Party ) in the constituency of Camberwell and Peckham . However, he failed with 12.8% of the vote.

Two years later, he won the constituency seat of Runnymede and Weybridge, succeeding the former Chancellor of the Exchequer under Prime Minister Theresa May , Philip Hammond , who withdrew from politics after being expelled from the Conservative faction.
