Bence Rakaczki (born May 14, 1993 in Miskolc , Hungary ; † January 16, 2014 there ) was a Hungarian football goalkeeper . From 2012 until his death he was in the professional squad of the Hungarian first division club Diósgyőri VTK .

life and career

Bence Rakaczki started his football career at the age of eight at the Miskolc Sports School. Two years later he was accepted into the junior division of Diósgyőri VTK, where he went through all youth leagues from now on. Due to his performance in the youth teams, the 1.98 m tall goalkeeper finally made his first jump into the professional squad of DVTK in the 2011/12 season. There he made his competitive debut under coach Miklós Benczés on November 30, 2011 in a 1-1 draw in the first knockout round of the 2011/12 Magyar Kupa against Győri ETO FC . Also in the 1: 4 defeat in the second leg, Rakaczki was in goal. He played both encounters over the entire duration of the game. He made his official professional debut for DVTK on May 4, 2012, when he was substituted on by coach and sporting director Lázár Szentes in the 71st minute for Norbert Tajti in the league match against Pécsi Mecsek FC . He had previously been a substitute goalkeeper in the squad four times, including on June 11, 2011 in his club's last league game against Orosháza FC before returning to the Hungarian first division. In the last three games of the 2011/12 season, Rakaczki was the goalkeeper of the DVTK. In three wins and one defeat, in which he participated this season, he had to accept six goals.

After the end of the season, Rakaczki complained of increasing weakness and muscle pain. After thorough testing, the 19-year-old was diagnosed with leukemia in June 2012 . The illness forced him to withdraw from professional sports. The news about his illness triggered a great echo beyond the national borders. Many people followed his association's call to donate blood for Rakaczki's treatment. Donations of money were received for him in Spain. Rakaczkis received additional Europe-wide support, among other things, through auction proceeds of signed jerseys of well-known players from various European football and ice hockey leagues. On January 29, 2013, Rakaczki received a bone marrow transplant after a suitable donor was found in the United States . The treatment resulted in a temporary improvement in his health.

Rakaczki died on January 16, 2014 of complications from his cancer. Around 2,000 people attended the funeral service the next evening in the DVTK Stadium , which was also visited by fans on the following days. After Akeem Adams, Rakaczki was the second player in a Hungarian first division club to die in the 2013/14 season .
