Benedetto Beltrami , also Benedetto Beltrami da Campione (* around 1410 in Campione d'Italia , † after 1450 in Sarzana ), was an Italian sculptor and architect.

life and work

Benedetto Beltrami came from Campione d'Italia , which for centuries, especially from the 12th to 14th centuries, was known for its artisans, the famous Maestri Campionesi : stonemasons, sculptors, painters, architects and builders, whose works were created all over northern Italy.

Between 1440 and 1441, Benedetto Beltrami carried out various works with the architect and builder Pietro di Giacomo da Como in the chapel of the Cathedral of Como . In 1450 he received the order from Andreola Tomeo dei Bosi and Cardinal Filippo Calandrini , the mother and brother of Pope Pope Nicholas V , to provide the chapel of S. Tommaso in the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta in Sarzana with a richly decorated marble border. The work was carried out on white marble and included numerous ornate decorations and coats of arms.
