Benedetto Montagna
Benedetto Cincani known as Benedetto Montagna (* around 1481 in Vicenza ; † before 1558 there) was an Italian painter and engraver .
life and work
Around 1500 he learned in the workshop of his father Bartolomeo Montagna , which he took over in 1523. At the beginning of his career he probably occupied himself with copperplate engraving , his early prints show the influences of Dürer and some of his copperplate engravings could be close to Dürer's stay in Italy 1506–1507, have arisen.
In the 19th century, 47 sheets of his copperplate engravings were in the Cathedral of Vicenza, together with paintings on the subject of the Trinity and the Madonna with John .
In addition to paintings and copperplate engravings, Benedetto Montagna made woodcuts for printing. A woodcut titled Hypnorotomachia Poliphili can be found in a work from Venice from 1545.
