Benedetto Vinaccesi (* around 1666 in Brescia ; † December 25, 1719 in Venice ) was an Italian composer of the Baroque era .

Life

Vinaccesi, who came from a wealthy merchant family, studied the organ and possibly other instruments in his hometown with the cathedral conductor Don Pietro Pelli . His first compositions were secular instrumental works and cantatas. From 1687 Vinaccesi was Kapellmeister to Duke Ferdinando II Gonzaga in Castiglione delle Stiviere . In 1690 he applied unsuccessfully for the post of organist at the Cathedral of Brescia . From the 1690s onwards, Vinaccesi increasingly devoted his work to sacred music. In 1692 his first oratorio Gioseffo che interpreta in sogni was performed in Modena . In the same year he was named cavaliere for his services . Vinaccesi initially held positions in Mantua and Brescia. From 1698 he was maestro di coro at the Ospedaletto , a position he held until 1715, and from 1704 he was one of the two main organists at St. Mark's Basilica in Venice. Friedrich Georg Dieterich (1686–1747) and the Venetian singing teacher Nicolò Domenico Turri were among his students .
