Benedikt Mayr (singer)
Benedikt Mayr ( September 21, 1835 in Kempten - December 5, 1902 in Darmstadt ) was a German opera singer ( tenor ) and opera director .
Life
Mayr completed the teachers' seminar in Laningen, then received his vocal training at the Conservatory in Munich and later by Pauline Viardot-Garcia in London.
He began his stage career in Regensburg in 1859 , then he was engaged in Braunschweig , Breslau , Bremen and Riga and in 1868 he was engaged for the court theater in Darmstadt , where he worked as a hero tenor until 1889 . Other roles were Rienzi , Jean de Leyde , Masaniello , the title roles in Fernand Cortez , Tannhäuser , Lohengrin etc. Mayr also worked as a director at the Darmstädter Hoftheater.
He was married to his colleague Antonie Mayr-Olbrich (1842–1912).
