Benedikt Schöttl (* 1688 in Egern ; † 1742 in Metten ) was a master bricklayer and architect of the Rococo .

life and work

Benedikt Schöttl was a master mason in Deggendorf . From 1690 to 1714 he worked on the renovation of the pilgrimage church in Loh . He also made renovation plans for the church in Seebach (1735) and the St. Grave Church in Deggendorf (1737). In Stephansposching , the tower as well as the west and north walls of the parish church of St. Stephan, which he built after 1739, have been preserved.

Schöttl was involved in the redesign of Metten Monastery at an early stage . Probably in 1724 he created a house portal there. From 1735 to 1737 he was site manager and from 1736 to 1742 he took over the construction of the ballroom.

His son Albert entered the Metten Monastery and worked there as a monastery builder.
