Albert Schöttl

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Albert Schöttl (born August 22, 1724 in Metten ; † March 15, 1757 ) was a lay brother and master builder in the Benedictine abbey of Metten .

life and work

Schöttl was the son of the town architect Benedikt Schöttl in Deggendorf, who often worked for the neighboring Metten Monastery. After joining the Metten Monastery (November 30, 1745), Schöttl was in charge of the new construction of the parish church in Michaelsbuch (1728/31) as a monastery builder. He was also responsible for the plans for the little castle on the Himmelberg , the summer residence of the Metten abbots (1755). Together with his father, he planned and managed the construction of the cloister's ballroom from 1734 (not completed until 1759).

The construction of the monastery church in Frauenzell was probably also carried out under the direction of Benedikt Schöttl and his son Albert (from 1737).
