Michaelsbuch is a district of the Stephansposching community in the Deggendorf district in Lower Bavaria .

location

The parish village is located in the Gäuboden on State Road 2074 about three kilometers southeast of Stephansposching and about two kilometers northwest of Plattling . Bundesautobahn 92 runs immediately southeast of Michaelsbuch .

history

Michaelsbuch, originally Puch , was probably founded as early as the 6th century. The place is particularly known for the life and work of Blessed Gamelbert in the 8th century. The noble Gamelbert worked 50 years as a pastor in Buch and founded the Metten Monastery . There his baptized child Utto became the first abbot. In 1294 the parish Michaelsbuch was incorporated into the Metten monastery. With the exception of the years 1803 to 1852, Benedictines from Metten always looked after the parish.

The name Michaelsbuch was not given until the 13th century after the patron saint of the parish church St. Michael. Mychelspouch is mentioned in the second Duke Surbar , which was built before 1300, as part of the Deggendorf district court . In 1464 Michaelsbuch appears as the main team, in 1474 and 1602 as the chairman . In the description from 1752, a part of the church village Rottenmann still belonged to the Michaelsbuch chairmanship.

In 1808 the Michaelsbuch tax district was created with the towns of Michaelsbuch, Freundorf , Hettenkofen , Schaidham and Uttenhofen . With the municipality edict of 17 May 1818, the municipality Michael Book, which additionally the place was Sautorn from the control district Pielweichs included.

On July 1, 1971, Michaelsbuch was merged with the formerly independent parish of Steinkirchen to form the new parish of Michaelsbuch.

On May 1, 1978, as part of the regional reform in Bavaria, the Michaelsbuch community was merged with the Rottersdorf community to form the new Stephansposching community.

Attractions

  • Parish Church of St. Michael . It was built from 1727 to 1732 on a Romanesque foundation according to a plan by Straubing's master mason Jakob Ruesch. The ceiling frescoes by Joseph Anton Merz from 1730 and 1731 are about the story of Gamelbert and Uto. The stucco work was done by the monastery brother Albert Bärtl from Metten . The high altar with the figurative representations of the archangel, the devil, Gamelbert and Utto was created by Christian Jorhan the Elder in 1764. The side altars were made between 1746 and 1751, the pulpit in 1753.
  • Rectory. The stately building was built between 1735 and 1795.

Personalities

  • Blessed Gamelbert lived here in the 8th century . He decided to serve as a shepherd on his father's estate, became a priest and, after his father's death, looked after the church of Buch as a pastor for 50 years, which he inherited. He founded the Benedictine monastery there in nearby Metten and made a pilgrimage to Rome at a very old age.
