Uttenkofen is a village in the Lower Bavarian district of Deggendorf , which belongs to the municipality of Stephansposching . From a geographical point of view, this place is located in Bavaria's granary , the so-called Gäuboden .

history

According to scientific studies ( Bavarian State Office for the Preservation of Monuments ) and internal data from the Metten Monastery , the graves of the monastery founders of the aforementioned monastery were probably located in this village. Some relics from the Roman Age, the Middle Bronze Age, the Younger Urnfield Age, the Hallstatt Age and the late Latène Age were also found around and in Uttenkofen, which can be viewed in the Deggendorfer Museum.

In the course of the expropriation of church property, some side churches of the parish Michaelsbuch were also destroyed. While all the other churches and chapels could be saved, St. George's Church in Uttenkofen fell victim to overexploitation . Decades later a farmer from Uttenkofen offered to have the church rebuilt. Instead of rebuilding it, the pastor decided on a cross, the so-called Retzerkreuz, erected between Michaelsbuch and Uttenkofen, consecrated on August 15, 1857.

Uttenkofen has about 50 inhabitants.

General

In Uttenkofen there is a precipitation station that determines and stores weather data. This weather station is owned by the State Office for Agriculture.

In the 1940s, Uttenkofen was still an exclusively agricultural and livestock village (7 farms). Today only large landowners cultivate their land full-time (2 farmers). Furthermore, regional variety trials are carried out with medium-early to late commercial potatoes.

In the vicinity of the village there is a quarry pond that was dug by a regional company to remove gravel.
