Koulikoro is an administrative region of Mali with 2,418,305 inhabitants (2009 census). Its capital is the place of the same name Koulikoro .

Ethnic groups in the region are the Bambara , Malinke and Somono .

geography

The Koulikoro region is located in southwest Mali and borders Guinea in the south and Mauritania in the north . It encloses the capital district of Bamako . The Niger , Baoulé , Sankarani , Baogé , Bani and Bafing rivers run through the region. The extreme south of Koulikoros is relatively humid, further north the climate of the Sahel zone prevails .

Koulikoro is divided into the seven circles ( cercles ) Banamba , Dioïla , Kangaba , Koulikoro , Kolokani , Kati and Nara .
