The Kidal region is located in northeast Mali . 67,638 people live in 151,450 square kilometers. This makes the region more than twice the size of Bavaria ; however, it only has as many inhabitants as Flensburg .

The Kidal region was formed in 1991 after an uprising . Most of the residents are Tuareg . You speak Tamascheq .

The region borders on the Timbuktu region to the west, the Gao region to the south, the Republic of Niger to the east and Algeria to the north . There is a desert climate; During the day it gets up to 45 ° C, at night it cools down to 12 ° C.

There are no rivers or paved roads. Livestock, trade and handicrafts are the most important branches of the economy. The main cities are Kidal and Tessalit . However, many residents are still nomads .
