The Baloué ( French Fleuve Baloué from Mandingo for 'Red River') is a river in Mali in West Africa . It flows from its source west of Bamako to the confluence with the Bakoye near Toukoto , a tributary of Senegal .
Surname
In the Mandigo languages, Baloué stands for 'Red River', Bakoye for 'White River' and Bafing for 'Black River'.
course
The Baloué rises near the border with Guinea , 120 km southwest of Bamako. It first runs 200 kilometers north, then turns west. Its course is winding in meanders over the entire length , the Boucle du Baoule National Park lies on a section to the south of it .
In the lower part of its course it flows towards the southwest. Finally, at Toukoto it flows into the Bakoye from the right , which almost doubles its flow rate.
Its length is about 500 km. It is not navigable.
Seasonal flow rate
Similar to the Bakoye, the flow rate varies greatly over the course of the year. Based on values measured at the Bakoye in Toukoto and in Oualia and then extrapolated to the Baloué, the minimum flow rate in the months of April and May is less than 0.1 m³ / s (100 liters / second), in December to June less than 7 m³ / s (7000 liters / second), increases from July to a peak of 314 m³ / s (314,000 liters / second) in September and then falls again to less than 36.2 m³ / s (36,200 liters) by November / Second).
