Benedikt Staub
Benedikt Staub SOCist (* 1617 in Menzingen ; † September 17, 1672 in Wettingen ) was a Swiss Cistercian and abbot of the Wettingen monastery .
Life
Benedikt Staub came from the well-known Menzing Staub family. Joined Wettingen Abbey, he was ordained a priest in 1641 and then worked in various positions inside and outside the monastery. Several times he was confessor in the monasteries of Magdenau and Tänikon and from 1659 to 1665 Cellerar in the monastery of Wettingen.
Elected abbot in 1670, since the nuncio Odoardo Cibo, who had not been invited to the election, delayed the papal confirmation, he was not appointed until October 1671, after the Eight Old Places had intervened in Rome. A long abbatiat was not granted to him. He died the following year and was buried in the Wettingen monastery church .
He left extensive sermon notes and a diary from his two-year reign.
