Benedikt (Bendix) von Ahlefeldt (* 1685 ; † 1739 at Gut Niendorf ) was a Privy Councilor, Chancellery President and Chamberlain of Duke Karl Friedrich of Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorf .

Life

Benedikt von Ahlefeldt was born in 1685 and was Detlev von Ahlefeldt's brother-in-law . Accompanied by his court master August Simon Lindholtz, he studied for three years at the University of Halle and for the next three years visited the courts of France, Italy, England and Germany. Returning from his trip, he joined the Herzoglich Gottorp service. In 1719 he was Privy Councilor, Chancellery President and Chamberlain of Duke Karl Friedrich, as well as District Administrator and Magistrate of Tremsbüttel and Steinhorst. On various occasions he was the Duke's envoy to the courts of Berlin and Stockholm.

He spent the last years of his life on his estate in Haselau . He inherited the Haseldorf estate from his stepsister in 1726 after the death of his brother-in-law Detlev von Ahlefeldt. After taking over the Haseldorf estate, his fortune was estimated at 150,000 thalers. Due to the great floods in the Haseldorfer Marsch in 1717 and 1720, he lost a large part of his fortune. With his wife Charlotte Amalia von Reventlow, daughter of Detlev von Reventlow auf Stubbe and Magdalena Sibylla, née Countess von Dernath, he had eleven children, five of which (including a daughter) died prematurely. The names are not known because the Haselau church book was washed away with the pastorate during the great flood in 1756. The other six children were: Benedikt (1715–1773), Detlev Benedikt , Christian Gerhard , Marie Elisabeth , Carl Friedrich and Margaretha Hedwig. Benedikt von Ahlefeldt died in 1739 while visiting Gut Niendorf near Lübeck.
