Mas-Grenier Benedictine Convent
The Benedictine convent Mas-Grenier was a priory of the Benedictine Sisters of the Holy Sacrament from 1836 to 2013, first in Toulouse , from 1904 in Portbou and from 1921 in Mas-Grenier , Canton Verdun-sur-Garonne , in the Département Tarn-et-Garonne ( Diocese of Montauban ) in France.
history
Toulouse and Portbou
A nun from the Feuillantinnen convent of Sainte-Scholastique , which was closed in 1792, founded a privately donated teaching convent in Toulouse in 1817 on the site of today's Lycée Saint Sernin high school . In 1836 the convent joined the Benedictine Sisters of the Most Holy Sacrament founded by Mechtilde de Bar . Under the pressure of the Third Republic , which was hostile to the monastery , the sisters went into exile in 1904 in Portbou on the Spanish-French border.
Mas-Grenier and Montolieu
When the nuns were able to return in 1921, they chose a new location 20 km southwest of Montauban in Mas-Grenier ( Chemin de Saint-Aignan ), where the remains of the former Benedictine monastery of Saint-Pierre still stood. There they took in the remaining nuns of the closed Corsican monastery Erbalunga in Brando in 1963 . In 2013, Mas-Grenier was given up due to problems with young talent. The remaining convent went to an old people's home of the Vincentine Sisters in Montolieu (northwest of Carcassonne).
