Benedictine convent Prailles

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Benedictine convent Prailles (also: Notre-Dame-de-l'Annonciation ) has been a convent of the Congregation of the Benedictine Sisters of Our Lady of Calvary in Prailles in the Deux-Sèvres ( Archdiocese of Poitiers ) in France since 1999 .

history

The Benedictine convent Notre-Dame du Calvaire , founded in 1617 by Antoinette von Orléans-Longueville (1572-1618) in Poitiers , was dissolved in 1792 by the French Revolution, but could be repopulated in another part of the city in 1824. In 1962 it moved to Saint-Julien-l'Ars (east of Poitiers) and changed from there in 1999 to Prailles (east of Niort ) to the town of Pié Foulard (east of Prailles on the D 103). In 2002, sisters of the dissolved Kerbénéat monastery joined them. The convent consists of 20 nuns and 6 Oblates. Because the monastery is on historical Huguenot grounds the monastery buildings blend discreetly into the landscape.
