Benedictine convent of Toul

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Benedictine monastery of Toul was from 1664 to 1792 a priory of the Benedictine Sisters of the Holy Sacrament in Toul in the department of Meurthe-et-Moselle ( Diocese of Toul ) in France.

history

Mechtilde de Bar , prioress of the first monastery of the Congregation of the Benedictine Sisters of the Holy Sacrament in Paris since 1654 , founded the Convent of the Benedictine Sisters of the Perpetual Adoration of the Holy Sacrement ( Couvent des Bénédictines de l'Adoration Perpétuelle du Saint Sacrement) as the first daughter monastery in Toul ). After it was dissolved in 1792 by the French Revolution , the monastery fell into disrepair. At the end of the 19th century it was converted into a gendarmerie barracks, which has served as a residential building since 1976 (after renovation). In the building (15 rue Michâtel), sparse remains of the monastery can still be seen.

Saint-Nicolas-de-Port

In 1812 the nuns, insofar as they had remained true to their vows underground, joined forces with those of the monasteries of Nancy and Rambervillers and began a new convent life in the empty convent of the Augustinian women choirs in Saint-Nicolas-de-Port .
