history

Rue Cassette

In 1654, Mechtilde de Bar founded a women's convent on Rue Férou in Paris, the first of the Benedictine Sisters of the Holy Sacrament. In 1659 it was relocated to a new building on Rue Cassette and dissolved in 1792 by the French Revolution . The buildings were demolished. Today, a plaque commemorates the former monastery in Rue Cassette (no. 10).

Rue Neuve-Saint-Louis

In 1684 the congregation founded a second monastery in Paris in the Hôtel de Turenne ( rue Neuve-Saint-Louis , today: rue de Turenne ). This monastery was also closed by the French Revolution in 1792 and later demolished. The church of St-Denys-du-Saint-Sacrement (Paris) , whose name is reminiscent of the convent, now rises on the spot .

Rue Tournefort

In 1808, a few survivors of both monasteries managed to make a fresh start in Rue Tournefort .
