Bengt Hallgren (Bishop)

Bengt Gustaf Hallgren (born April 1, 1925 in Kalmar ) is a Swedish Lutheran clergyman and bishop emeritus.

Hallgren studied theology from 1944 at the Universities of Gothenburg and Lund . He passed the candidate exam in 1950 and was ordained in 1952 . From 1956 he worked as an adjunct adjunct in the diocese of Växjö , from 1963 as a secretary in the church administration of the Swedish Church in Uppsala . In 1964 he was promoted to Dr. theol. PhD. In 1969 he returned to Växjö , where he first worked as a lecturer at the University of Education and from 1974 as provost . As Bertil WerkströmIn 1983 he was appointed Archbishop of the Church of Sweden, Hallgren succeeded him in the office of Bishop in the Diocese of Härnösand . In 1991 he retired.
