Bertil Werkström

Bertil Werkström (born June 9, 1928 in Lund , † July 10, 2010 in Stockholm ) was a Swedish Lutheran clergyman and archbishop of Uppsala .

Werkström grew up in Dalsland , was ordained in the Lund diocese in 1954 and trained as a hospital chaplain in the USA. After graduating as Dr. theol. In 1964 he became the hospital priest in Sundsvall , in 1970 director of the Diakonieeanstalt Stora Sköndal and in 1974 royal court preacher . In 1975 he was appointed bishop of the Diocese of Härnösand . In 1983 he was appointed Archbishop of Uppsala to succeed Olof Sundby and served as the highest representative of the Church of Sweden until his retirement in 1993 . He sat down especially for the 1992 adopted a Convention with which the Anglican churches of the British Isles and the Lutheran churches in the Nordic countries and the Baltic side communion declared ( Porvoo Communion ).
