Olof Sundby (born December 6, 1917 in Karlskoga , † December 6, 1996 in Lund ) was a Swedish Lutheran clergyman and archbishop of Uppsala .

Sundby completed his theological exams in Lund, was ordained in the Diocese of Karlstad in 1943 and worked there as a youth pastor for five years. He then continued his studies in Lund and completed them in 1959 with a dissertation on "Lutheran Understanding of Marriage" and a doctorate . He was a temporary lecturer in theological ethics, became a pastor in the parish of St. Peters Monastery in Lund in 1960 and was also active in the practical pastoral training during this time. In 1970 he was appointed Bishop of Växjö . He was chairman of the committee of the Bishops' Conference for attracting theological offspring, chairman of the Stora Sköndal deaconry and chairman of the Sigtuna Foundation, the most important conference center of the Church of Sweden .

On September 8, 1972, he was appointed Archbishop of Uppsala by the Swedish government as the successor to the late Ruben Josefson and thus the highest representative of the Swedish state church. From 1975 to 1983 he was one of the presidents of the World Council of Churches (WCC). In 1983 he retired as Archbishop.
