Benito Gutmacher (born February 13, 1950 in Buenos Aires ) is an Argentine actor , writer and director .

Live and act

Gutmacher is a son of Jewish Polish emigrants. He began his career in 1970 as an actor with "Serjeant Musgrave's Dance" by John Arden . Inspired by the theories of Antonin Artaud and the dancer Iris Scaccheri , he traveled to Paris in 1971, where he performed his solo piece Le cri du corps (“The Scream of the Body”), which received a positive review in Le Monde . Since his appearance “Le cri du corps” he has performed at festivals and theaters in France and other European countries, Latin America and the USA for over 30 years. In 1972 he played at the Théâtre des Nations in Paris under the direction of Jean-Louis Barrault . In 1975 he was named one of the best actors of the year in the Clarín newspaper after a screening at the Teatro Regina in Buenos Aires . In 1978 he met Alejandro Jodorowsky , who suggested that he perform his play Tarot in Paris. In 1990 he appeared at the La MaMa Experimental Theater Club in New York, whereupon he was described in a review by the New York Times as a "virtuoso of body theater".

Gutmacher settled in Europe, where he worked with Hector Malamud and Carlos Trafic for 15 years. Since 1981 he has lived in Freiburg im Breisgau . In Germany he has staged over 25 plays with independent groups, including “Happy Birthday Herr Kowalek” and the children's play “A lot of rubbish” with the widu theater in Oldenburg , “My friend the computer” with the Fletch Bizzel theater in Dortmund , “ Letter to the Father ” by Kafka with Edgar Wiesemann in Freiburg and the Alemannic piece “Lieber e Ma wie kei Ärger” with the Freiburg dialect group. In 1991 he directed Paradise Later, a solo performance by Stephan Schulberg, a member of The Living Theater . Gutmacher has conducted dozens of courses and workshops in Germany, France and Switzerland. He is married and has 4 children.
