Benito Rebolledo

Benito Rebolledo Correa (born August 2, 1880 in Curicó , † June 29, 1964 in Santiago de Chile ) was a Chilean painter .

Born into a peasant family, Rebolledo came to Santiago at the age of fifteen and joined the Colonia Tolstoyana , a group of intellectuals influenced by the ideas of Tolstoy and political anarchism. a. the writers Augusto D'Halmar , Fernando Santiván and Baldomero Lillo and the painters Julio Ortiz de Zárate , José Backhaus , Pablo Burchard Eggeling and Rafael Valdés included.

At the Escuela de Bellas Artes he then studied painting with Pedro Lira , Juan Francisco González and Fernando Álvarez de Sotomayor . As a student of Sotomayor, he is counted among the painters of the Generacion del Trece . During his lifetime he had a number of solo exhibitions of his works in Santiago, Concepción and Buenos Aires. He has received several awards and in 1959 received the Premio Nacional de Arte . On his 100th birthday, the Instituto Cultural de Providencia in Santiago honored him with a retrospective of his works. Works by Rebolledo are among others. a. owned by the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes , the Art Gallery of the Universidad de Concepción and the Museo Historico Nacional .
