Benjamin Bierman

Benjamin Bierman (born March 15, 1954 ) is an American jazz trumpeter and band leader, pianist, arranger, composer and music teacher.

Bierman received his bachelor's degree in composition from the State University of New York in 1987 . He received his master's degree in 2002 from Brooklyn College, City University of New York , where he wrote his dissertation on the music of George Handy in 2006. His composition teachers were Tania León , John Corigliano and David Del Tredici . From 2000 to 2003 he directed the Center for Computer Music at Brooklyn College, then until 2004 the H. Wiley Hitchcock Institute for Studies in American Music . In addition, he has been teaching music theory, ear training, new music and jazz at City University - as assistant professor since 2009.

Bierman has directed the Dance Orchestra of New York since 1997 . As a trumpeter, composer and arranger, he has worked with musicians such as BB King , Archie Shepp , Machito , Ray Barretto , Tito Puente , Celia Cruz , Johnny Copeland , Albert Collins , Robert Cray , Stevie Ray Vaughan and James Cotton .
