Josef Zerwes

Josef Zerwes (born February 2, 1836 in Asbach , † February 27, 1901 in Mülheim an der Ruhr ) was a German businessman and director of the Friedrich Wilhelms-Hütte (FWH) in Mülheim an der Ruhr.

From 1869 to 1901 Josef Zerwes was commercial director of the Friedrich Wilhelms-Hütte in Mülheim an der Ruhr. Together with the technical director Joseph Schlink , he managed to lead the company through difficult economic times. Interested in the well-being of his employees, he supported the establishment of Actien-Baugesellschaft in 1872 to create inexpensive living space for the workers in the hut. In public life themselves Zerwes committed as Mülheim city councilor , honorary councilor , member of the district council and chairman (1892-1901) of the Chamber of Commerce Mülheim-Oberhausen.
