Benjamin Bildstein (born January 16, 1992 in Wolfurt ) is an Austrian sailing enthusiast . 2020 he was at the helm for the first time with bowman David Hussl No. 1 on the world ranking of the 49er class .

Athletic career

In 2012, Bildstein entered international professional sport together with his crew member David Hussl . Due to their successful development in the Olympic boat class 49er , the two were accepted into the national team of the Austrian Sailing Association (OeSV) and as sports soldiers in the armed forces. Bildstein holds the rank of train conductor there .

After some successes in the junior area, the duo won the youth world championship title in 2015 and the overall world cup in 2016. In 2017 it won bronze at the World Cup in Porto.

However, Bildstein and Hussl also had to accept setbacks: The OeSV team, which had been shaken by several injuries, had to go through the same procedure at regular intervals until summer 2018: injury, rehab and comeback to the top group of sailing.

The biggest success in the recent past was the qualification for the Olympic Summer Games in Tokyo . With a sixth place at the 2019 World Cup in Auckland (New Zealand), the duo bought the third national ticket for the OeSV. At the World Championships in February 2020 in front of Geelong (Australia) it scraped one point past a medal spot.

In March 2020, Bildstein and Hussl achieved first place in the world rankings for the first time . In the six regattas relevant to the world rankings, the duo always achieved top 6 placements.
