Benjamin Gary Thorne (born March 19, 1993 ) is a Canadian athlete who specializes in walking .

Thorne gained his first international competition experience in 2012 at the Walker World Cup in Saransk (84th place in the 20-kilometer race) and at the Junior World Championships in Barcelona (disqualification in the 10,000-meter track walk). At the 2013 World Championships in Moscow, he finished 20th over 20 kilometers. Over the same distance he was thirteenth at the 2014 World Cup in Taicang with a new personal best of 1:20:19 hours.

At the 2015 Summer Universiade in Gwangju, South Korea, Thorne came second over 20 kilometers. In the same year he celebrated the hitherto greatest international success of his career when he surprisingly won the bronze medal at the World Championships in Beijing . It was the first world championship medal for a Canadian to walk. He also set a new national record in the 20 km walk with his final time of 1:19:57 hours.

At the team world championships in Rome in 2016, Thorne increased his best performance to 1:19:55 hours. Fifth in the individual ranking, he led the Canadian team around Iñaki Gómez and Evan Dunfee to second place behind China. At the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , he finished 27th in the 20-kilometer distance in 1:22:28 hours.

Thorne is studying mechanical engineering at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver.
