Bennie Swain

Bennie S. Swain (born December 16, 1933 - June 19, 2008 in Houston ) was an American basketball player .

Bennie Swain played for the Texas Southern University team in the 1950s as forward and center. 1957/58 he was the most successful points collector of the season. In that year he was also appointed to the US college selection team ("All American Team"). When he left university after graduation, he held the team's scorer record until 1981. After his college career, he moved to the NBA . He was the seventh Entry Draft by the Boston Celtics brought. He stayed with the club for only one season and averaged 4.6 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. In the end he became champion with the Celtics and played 58 games.

After his playing career, Swain became a coach. 1970 to 1976 he coached the team at Lincoln High School, 1980 to 1989 Jones High School. In 1999 he returned from retirement once more to coach the Ryan Middle School's boys team. After a long illness, he died in 2008 at the age of 77. He was married with four children and eight grandchildren.
