Benny Barth

Benny Barth (* 16th February 1929 in Indianapolis ) is an American jazz - drummer .

life and career

Benny Barth attended Shortridge High School in his hometown and was part of the Indiana Avenue jazz scene there from an early age. After graduating from Butler University , he moved to the US West Coast , where he worked with Conte Candoli and Lennie Niehaus ; He also worked as a session musician on numerous jazz albén and film music. From 1957 to 1961 he was a member of the Mastersounds formation , in which Buddy Montgomery (vibraphone), his brother Monk Montgomery (bass) and Richie Crabtree (piano) played. He was later a house drummer at San Francisco's Club Hungi I for three years . Bareth also worked on the album Drums on Fire , which was co-created with Art Blakey and Chico Hamilton . In addition to the master sounds , Barth was involved in recordings of Wes Montgomery ( Fingerpickin ' , 1958), Joe Venuti , Ben Webster , Jimmy Witherspoon , Pearl Bailey , Joe Williams , George Barnes and Mel Tormé . In 1976, he accompanied Helen Humes on her album Deed I Do . He was also involved in some of the recordings of Vince Guaraldi's music for the TV series The Peanuts .
