In 1780 a windmill was described in Bensdorf . In 1829 a windmill was inaugurated north of the village. Georg Christian Friedrich Sengespeick (* 1804, † 1884) was the founder of the mill. He was followed by his son Karl Wilhelm Ferdinand Sengespeick (* 1833; † 1901). The windmill existed until at least 1891, but subsequently burned down. As a result, a first steam mill was built at a new location on Lindenstrasse . The construction of the steam mill goes back to Karl Friedrich Ferdinand Franz Sengespeick (* 1868, † 1939). The year of construction is unknown. The first steam mill was built directly onto the house on the mill property.

A fire broke out on June 11, 1911, after which the Altbensdorf volunteer fire brigade was founded on the same day . The following year, on July 5, 1912, the house and the mill burned down. In 1912, Franz Sengespeick built a new house and a new steam mill at the same location, this time at a distance from each other. With a daily output of 20 tons, the new steam mill was the largest mill in what was then the district of Jerichow II . Franz Ferdinand Franz Sengespeicks son Erich Sengespeick (* 1902, † 1976) was a 1000 tonne capacity on the mill premises 1935 granary building. This was solidly masonry and has the dimensions length by width 12 meters by 12 meters and a height of 32 meters. At this height, the warehouse is the highest structure in the village and towers over the nearby tower of the Altbensdorf village church .

In 1940 it was decided to convert the mill to electrical operation. The necessary materials were obtained. However, the renovation could not initially be carried out due to the Second World War . After the end of the war, the mill owner Erich Sengespeick was expropriated on September 30, 1946 and the mill was initially under fiduciary management. Electrification finally took place from 1946 to 1947. In 1948, 24 people worked in the mill.

In the following decades in the GDR , the sponsorship changed repeatedly. In 1949 the mill came to the Sachsen-Anhalt industrial works before it was operated by the consumer cooperative from 1950 . Within the cooperative were sponsors 1950 Konsumgenossenschaftsverband Sachsen-Anhalt, 1952 Konsum Mühlen Magdeburg - Sachsen-Anhalt, 1955 Konsumgenossenschaftsverband Stadt und Kreis Brandenburg eGmbH, 1967 Konsumgenossenschaftsverband Kreis Brandenburg Land eGmbH, 1967 Konsum-Mühlen Rathenow, 1980 Konsum-Bakwarenkombinat Potsdam, 1988 Konsum- Mühlen Rathenow - Operation of the consumption confectionery and long-life baked goods combine Markkleeberg. Master miller was among others Kurt Xenodochius (* 1920; † 2000).

With the end of the GDR and the subsequent restructuring, the Federal Property Office initially took over Bensdorfer Mühle in 1990 . In contrast to many mills in the Brandenburg district that were shut down, the transition to the private market economy was achieved in Bensdorf. In 1994 Bernd Xenodochius acquired the mill and has been running it ever since. In 1998, a Viag Intercom ( O2 ) cell phone station was built on the mill's grain silo .

With the establishment of ecological agriculture , the company in Bensdorf was adapted to this change. Organic grain has been bought, cleaned and ground since 1991. The production range includes, for example, baked meal and wholemeal flours made from rye and wheat , as well as all type flours made from rye. In 2015, the Bensdorfer Mühle is one of only two commercially operated grain mills in the old district of Brandenburg, whereby the closure of the mill in Groß Kreutz is planned due to age. In the Bensdorfer Mühle guided tours are offered with prior registration. A factory sale takes place. Four employees work in the mill.
