The mountain and nature guards in Austria provide information about nature conservation , monitor the laws for the protection of nature and the environment, support the authorities in maintaining the natural and cultural landscape and actively help with its maintenance. Depending on the federal state, these are public corporations , associations or parts of the state governments, the exact tasks and powers of which differ in some cases. The employees are subordinate to the district or directly to the federal states, work on an honorary or full-time basis and are sworn as public guard organs.
