Mount of Beatitudes
The Mount of Beatitudes is an elevation on the northern edge of the Sea of Galilee in northern Israel .
According to Christian tradition, this is the place where Jesus of Nazareth delivered the Sermon on the Mount ( Mt 5–7 EU ), which begins with the Beatitudes (“Blessed are ...”) ( Mt 5 : 3–12 EU ). He is also said to have chosen the apostles from among his disciples ( Lk 6,12-16 EU ).
Earlier church buildings were located further down the mountain near Tabgha , the place where bread was multiplied. Today there is a monastery and a church on the elevation . The latter has an octagonal floor plan . The church , built in 1937 according to the plans of Antonio Barluzzi, is visited by tourists and pilgrims because of the view over the lake.
