The origin and development of the mountain court, which is often confused with the Thurlinden free court, has hardly been researched. Possibly the landlord, the monastery of St. Gallen , acquired the jurisdiction after 1300 from the barons of Wunnenberg. Presumably, the court was not created until the end of the 15th century ( opening 1497). The mountain court administered by the Wileramt was located outside the St. Gallen monastery state in the Landgraviate of Thurgau and was exposed to competing legal claims by the prince abbot and the confederates until the federal arbitration award of 1525 . Until 1798 the monastery exercised all sovereign and judicial rights in addition to the high jurisdiction , which lay with the Thurgau regional court.
