Mountain contest 1957

July 22nd ( St. Magdalenen ) in Schneeberg is known as the mountain battle day .

history

In 1496 the trades tried to cut the miners a groschen from their weekly wages because the operating costs of the Schneeberg mines had risen sharply. This attempt was fought off by the miners ' union, but as early as 1498 the trades tried again to reduce the miners' wages. This time the miners went on strike and moved from Schneeberg to Wolfsberg with the miners' union flag. The strike had an effect and the trades had to withdraw the cut in wages. The miners withdrew to the city and celebrated a thanksgiving service.

The day of the dispute was declared a day off for the miners of the Schneeberger Revier and was celebrated with a ceremony.

In an edict in 1665, Elector Johann Georg II of Saxony set July 22nd as the day of the dispute.

The day of the contest remained unemployed until the 20th century, when the Nazis finally banned the miners' associations.

Today the day of the dispute is celebrated every year with a large mountain parade and subsequent mountain service.
