history

"Bergwerck" on a map from the 18th century

Mine was built at the beginning of the 18th century as a residential area in the Pegenau district and was mentioned in a document as early as 1764 and 1814 under its current name. The estate of Meissen administered the settlement. The lords of Scharfenberg Castle exercised the manorial rule . As part of Pegenau, Bergwerk and other settlements in the area formed the rural community of Gruben , which was renamed Scharfenberg after the nearby castle in 1920 . Scharfenberg has had local status within the municipality of Klipphausen since 1999, which also includes mine.
