District Office Meißen
The district office of Meißen was the administrative center of the Meißnische Kreis in the Electorate of Saxony . The territory belonged to the Saxon hereditary lands. This is where the term " Erbamt Meissen" comes from .
history
The circle's roots go back to the second half of the 12th century. The area essentially comprises the core area of the Margraviate of Meißen . The structures of old Sorbian subdistricts, the Supania ( Sorbian župa ), existed in the district until the 16th century . The division of justice and rent offices had existed since 1784, but it was not until 1831 that they became independent authorities.
In 1547 the district office took over the administration of the manors Cölln and Brockwitz near Meißen.
