The Mountain Chiffchaff ( Phylloscopus sindianus ) is a singing bird from the kind of Laubsänger ( phylloscopus ) from the family of Laubsänger-like (Phylloscopidae). It is particularly widespread in the Caucasus and the Himalayas and has molecular genetic and vocal differences with the externally similar chiffchaff , which is why it is a separate species of warbler.

Occurrence and subspecies

A distinction is made between two subspecies: The Phylloscopus sindianus lorenzii ( Lorenz, T , 1887) (found in the Caucasus , northwestern Iran and northeastern Turkey ) and the Phylloscopus sindianus sindianus Brooks, WE , 1801 (found in Tajikistan , northern Pakistan , western China and Northwest India ). The Bergzilpzalp can often be seen in spruce trees .

Appearance and singing

With a size of 10 to 11.5 cm, the Bergzilpzalp is one of the smaller warblers. The top is brown and the underside is creamy white. The beak and feet are black. His singing has a fast tempo and consists of short syllables.

This warbler feeds on insects , especially flies . In addition, he consumes fruits.

The IUCN classifies the Bergzilpzalp as not endangered (least concern).
