The M45 is a self-loading pistol in .45 ACP caliber . It replaces the M45 MEUSOC in the United States Marine Corps , a modified Colt M1911 that had been in service since 1985.
history
In 2010, the Marine Corps Systems Command announced a successor to MEUSOC. We were looking for a robust pistol in .45 ACP caliber with a magazine that can load 7 cartridges and with the designation "NSN 1005-01-373-2774", that is, the magazine that was used in the M1911. Companies such as Kimber Manufacturing , Colt Defense , Springfield Armory and Karl Lippard took part in the tender. Colt won the tender and a contract worth $ 22.5 million was signed in July 2012. Colt's design was based on the Rail Gun.
technology
Basically, the technology is the same as the original M1911, but there are a few modifications. The weapon is basically made of forged, stainless steel - except for the trigger, which is made of aluminum . The M45A1 has two return springs to reduce the recoil. The weapon has a luminescent 3-point sight, and a Mil-Std-1913 mounting system is used to mount tactical accessories.
