from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Beri Monastery or Beri Gonpa etc. (Tibetan Be-ri Dgon; English Beri Monastery) or Baili Monastery ( 白 利 寺 , Báilì sì , also Chinese  白日 寺 , Pinyin Báirì sì ) is a monastery of Gelug School (yellow hats) of Tibetan Buddhism in Kardze County (Chin. Garzê; Pinyin: Ganzi) of the Kardze Autonomous District of Tibet in the northwest of the Chinese province of Sichuan . The monastery, built in the 17th century, is located about 10 km from Garze in the area of Shengkang 生 康 乡 on the north bank of the Yalong Jiang on a mountain, the Sichuan-Tibet Road (Chuan-Zang gonglu) leads past it.

history

Beri was the capital of an important Bonpo principality and the cultural center of this part of Kham until the 17th century . Up to this time the Bon religion prevailed in the principality of Beri . The Beri ruler (Baili tusi 白 利 土司 ) named Donyo Dorje (Dunyue Duoji 顿 月 多吉 ) was defeated by the troops of Gushri Khan (Gushi Han 固始 汗 ) between 1639 and 1641, resulting in the formation of the Trehor states (i.e. the five Hor principalities).

1936-1950

Here the Böpa government ( i.e. the Tibetan government; chin. Boba Zhengfu) was founded by the Red Army during their Long March in 1936 , the Living Buddha (Tulku) Getag , who supported the Red Army, was initially their vice. After the Red Army left Garze, he treated the wounded and sick, disguised them as lamas until they could get themselves to safety. In 1950 Getag was killed by the English.

Monument of the PRC

The Beri Monastery has been on the List of Monuments of the People's Republic of China (6-1043) since 2006 . It is currently being restored by the Tibet Heritage Fund .
