The Berliner Allee is a 650-meter-long main road in Hanover . It forms the border between the districts of Mitte on the one hand and Oststadt and Südstadt on the other. It is part of the Hanover city ring.

History of origin

The street is part of the Hanoverian street system that emerged after the Second World War . The then town planning officer Rudolf Hillebrecht completely redesigned the Hanover road network after the destruction of the Second World War , based on the ideas of a car-friendly city at the time . Like other streets of the so-called Cityring, Berliner Allee received several lanes in each direction and a wide median. The median was designed as a precautionary plan in order to be able to build elevated roads based on the American model later if necessary . The Raschplatzhochstrasse is the only part of this plan that has been implemented.

For the construction of the street, among other things, the villas Schiffgraben 38 and 39 , built in 1867 according to plans by Heinrich Köhler , were demolished in 1950 .

course

The road runs in a north-west-south-east direction between Lister Meile and Marienstraße , where the ship ditch is crossed. Shortly before the southeast end of Berliner Allee, the southern station apron of the main station is crossed under . In addition to the green central reservation, Berliner Allee has three lanes and separate parking lanes on both sides . In the area of the Raschplatz a four-lane elevated road leads over the intersection with the Lister Meile. The Berliner Allee turns into the Hamburger Allee . There is the 141 m high VW tower .

building

On Berliner Allee, for example, there is the building of the Lower Saxony Medical Association ( house number 20 ) and the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians as well as the Hanover Chamber of Crafts (house number 17). Another major building in the course of the street near Weissekreuzplatz is the DZ Bank building .
