overview

The baroque concert series was launched in 2006 by the Berlin Residence Orchestra.

The concept is based on a combination of music, cuisine and scenery. The event takes place in the Hohenzollern residence Schloss Charlottenburg. The music and the theatrical representation are developed conceptually and dramaturgically. Program formats are inspired by historical events such as Casanova's visit to Friedrich II. In 1764 and are in the tradition of the Prussian court of muses under Queen Sophie Charlotte , which they make vividly tangible for the audience.

The artists appear in historical costumes that are true to the original. A master of ceremonies moderates the evening in three languages in English, German and French and reports anecdotally on life at the Prussian court.

procedure

After the reception by the master of ceremonies, the guests are shown into the west wing of the Great Orangery of the palace. The evening begins there with a candlelit dinner. During the menu, members of the Berlin Residence Orchestra provide musical accompaniment with short musical samples from the later program. The actual concert will then take place in the east wing of the Great Orangery. The musicians present selected pieces by composers from the Baroque period and the Viennese Classic .

orchestra

The Berliner Residenzorchester has played all of the concerts since the concert series was founded, and according to its own statements it is now more than 2000 in number. It was compiled from international musicians exclusively for the baroque concert series in Charlottenburg Palace. Guest performances have taken members of the orchestra to Carnegie Hall in New York, to La Scala in Milan and to many other national and international stage engagements. In addition to the concerts, the musicians regularly take part in CD and DVD productions. Smaller formations have also formed within the orchestra that perform with their own programs.
