ethics
Bernard Gert starts from a moral system known as common morality, which people often unconsciously apply when they make moral decisions or make judgments that affect morality. He sees no compelling reason to replace this moral system with a better one. According to Bernhard Gert, the core of morality is composed of ten moral rules:
- You should not kill
- You shouldn't cause pain
- You shouldn't incapacitate
- You shouldn't deprive yourself of freedom or opportunity
- You shouldn't withdraw pleasure
- You shouldn't deceive
- You should keep your promises
- You shouldn't cheat
- Obey the law
- You should do your duty
