Bernard Renau d'Elicagaray
Bernard Renau d'Elicagaray (born February 2, 1652 in Armendarits (old: Armandaritz; in the French department Pyrénées-Atlantiques ); † September 30, 1719 in Pougues-les-Eaux ) was a French engineer and naval officer.
He is said to have designed and built the first galiote à bombe based on the Dutch Galiot in 1682 . After the publication of his work, he discussed the technology of steering a sailing ship with Christiaan Huygens in public.
In 1699 he was made an honorary member of the Académie royale des sciences by King Louis XIV .
