Bernard Sadoulet
Bernard Sadoulet (born April 23, 1944 in Nice ) is a French physicist.
Sadoulet studied from 1963 to 1965 at the École polytechnique and received his doctorate in 1971 from the University of Paris-South in Orsay . From 1966 to 1973 he was at CERN and from 1976 at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory .
He was involved in the design of the UA1 detector at CERN .
In the 1990s and 2000s, he was looking for dark matter , so-called WIMPs . To this end, he developed cryogenic detectors to detect these WIMPs using the phonons in crystals that they generate through collisions . Specifically, he initiated the CDMS (Cryogenic Dark Matter Search) experiments with Blas Cabrera at the Soudan Underground Laboratory in Minnesota.
In 2013 he received the Panofsky Prize with Blas Cabrera . He is a Fellow of the American Physical Society , the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and a member of the National Academy of Sciences . Since 1985 he has been a professor at the University of California, Berkeley . From 1988 he was director of the Center for Particle Astrophysics there.
