Bernard Sergent ( / sɛʁʒɑ̃ / ; * February 23, 1946 ) is a French historian and religious scholar who specializes in comparative mythology .

Bernard Sergent attended the Lycée Jacques Detour in Paris and studied Classical Philology and Ancient History. He received his doctorate in 1975 from the University of Paris X-Nanterre with the dissertation "Recherches sur la royauté mycénienne". He works as a researcher at the CNRS in Paris and since 1992 has been president of the Société de mythologie française, founded by Henri Dontenville in 1950 .

He is an advocate of Georges Dumézil's trifunctional ideology. His research topics include studies of the history of homosexuality in Europe and comparative Greek, Celtic and Indian mythology. He also tries to connect archaeological cultures with the early Indo-Europeans and defends the traditional view that the Indo-Aryans immigrated to India.

For his work L'homosexualité dans la mythologie grecque he received the Prix ​​Broquette-Gonin of the Académie française in 1984 .
