Bernardino Osio

Bernardino Osio (* 2. May 1934 in Milan ) is an Italian diplomat in retirement .

He is the grandson of Bernardino Nogara .

Education

On February 24, 1958, he graduated from the University of Milan with a law degree .

Career

On August 31, 1960, he entered the foreign service and was employed in Department 9 Legations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Rome. On July 19, 1962, he was appointed Secretary of the Third Class. On February 18, 1963, he was appointed Vice Consul. On July 19, 1963, he was appointed Secretary of the Second Class and Vice Consul in Lugano . On October 1, 1963, he became Vice Consul in Basel . On May 31, 1965, he became second class delegation secretary in Buenos Aires , where he was appointed first class delegation secretary on March 17, 1967. On December 21, 1967, he was appointed second class delegation secretary to the Holy See , where he was appointed first class delegation secretary on March 1, 1968 and delegation councilor on December 12, 1970. On January 2, 1973, he was assigned to the Protocol Division. On March 18, 1975, he became First Class Counselor in Buenos Aires. On March 16, 1978 he became press spokesman for the embassy in Paris .

From June 8, 1981 to July 2, 1984 he was ambassador in Quito ( Ecuador ). In this capacity he was appointed extraordinary Ministre plénipotentiaire on January 28, 1983 . From July 2, 1984 to July 10, 1986 he was employed in Department 12 in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he was appointed Ministerial Councilor on July 10, 1986. From July 10, 1986 to June 15, 1994 he was Ambassador in Lima , where he was promoted to the rank of Ambassador on January 13, 1990, and to the rank of Envoy Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary on January 16, 1992 1st Class. In accordance with a law passed on March 24, 2000, as Ministre plénipotentiaire, he was subordinate to the Human Resources Department. He was retired on March 1, 2001 .
