Bernardo Citterio

Bernardo Citterio (born June 11, 1908 in Valmadrera , Province of Lecco , Italy ; † November 13, 2002 ) was Roman Catholic auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Milan .

Life

Bernardo Citterio received the sacrament of ordination for the Archdiocese of Milan in 1931 . He received his doctorate in theology in 1931 and in literary studies in 1937 . He was lecturer and Regens of the seminary of St. Martin in Masnago . In 1954 he became the rain of the Venegono Seminary. In 1957 he moved to Seregno as provost .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on November 4, 1969 titular bishop of Floriana and appointed him auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Milan. The Archbishop of Milan, Giovanni Umberto Cardinal Colombo , gave him his episcopal consecration on December 7th of the same year; Co-consecrators were the two auxiliary bishops of Milan, Giuseppe Schiavini and Luigi Oldani . In parallel to the episcopate he was the rain of the seminary in Milan and the seminary in Venegono. As bishop he was responsible, among other things, for the pastoral district in Varese.

He retired on December 30, 2000 at the age of 92; his resignation was granted by Pope John Paul II . As incumbent auxiliary bishop, he has seen eight archbishops in Milan, so he always spoke of "My eight cardinals" ("I miei otto cardinali").
