Bernd Hofmann (born September 18, 1941 , † July 14, 2013 in Dresden ) was a German football player . In the top soccer class of the GDR soccer association , the Oberliga , he was active for Dynamo Dresden and Dynamo Berlin .

Career

Hofmann, son of the former national soccer player Richard Hofmann , began his soccer career with the small company sports association (BSG) Lok Dresden Mitte. In 1957, at the age of 16, he moved to the SG Dynamo Dresden Police Sports Association. After he had gone through the compulsory junior teams and completed an apprenticeship as a motor vehicle mechanic, he played from 1959 in the first team Dynamo Dresden, which had just been promoted to the second-rate GDR league . In the 1961/62 season he rose with his team in the league.

In his first league season 1962/63 Hofmann played from the start continuously on the left side of midfield and played 23 of the 26 played point games. In 1962 he was accepted into the squad of the GDR youth national team. Between 1962 and 1963 he was used in four junior international matches. In 1963 and 1965 he was used in three international B matches. The 1962/63 season ended with relegation for the newcomer Dynamo Dresden. Hofmann, with the prospect of becoming a national player, was then delegated to the main club of the Dynamo Sports Association , the upper division club SC Dynamo Berlin. There he completed only the first nine point games in the league, initially as a striker, the last five encounters in his usual role in midfield. After the end of the season Hofmann returned to Dynamo Dresden.

The Dresdner had meanwhile again risen to the top division. Hofmann took over his regular place in midfield and made 17 league appearances in 1964/65. He remained a regular player as a midfield director in the following years. In 1967/68 he played all 26 league games for the first time and was the top scorer of his team with seven goals; six of them resulted from penalties . However, his team had scored the fewest of all the league teams with 25 goals and was relegated again. In the GDR league season 1968/69 Hofmann played 27 of the 30 played point games, made seven goals and was thus involved in the immediate resurgence. The new league season 1969/70 was the last first division season for the now 28-year-old Hofmann. After he had played the first point games and again scored two goals from penalty kicks, his career as a top athlete ended with the game Dynamo Dresden - Vorwärts Berlin (1: 1). Within eight years he had played 124 league games (115 for Dynamo Dresden) and scored 17 goals (for Dresden).

Hofmann died on July 14, 2013 after a serious illness in Dresden.
